Reverse Heart Applique Shirt (from a Turtleneck)

I saw this sweater redo earlier this week and loved it so much that I had to make my own version.

STEP 1: I started with a turtleneck that I found on clearance and cut off the neck.

STEP 2: I turned the shirt inside out, cut out a heart from another piece of fabric, and laid it right side down on the front side of the shirt.

STEP 3: I stitched all the way around the heart, turned the shirt right side out again, and cut away the shirt fabric just to the inside of the stitching.

You can also see I stitched a line around the neck I cut. I thought this gave it a more completed look.
